Elston guest lectures on Frame design. The Student
learns to Plan, Layout, Construct and Raise a Timber Frame
Building using a variety of hand and power tools.
Week 1: Lofting
the Frame; Shopdrawings; Frame Engineering; Wood Technology;
Tool Use/Safety.
Week 2: Housed
Knee Brace Layout and Joinery; Traditional Square Rule Layout;
Post Layout/Cutting, Housings, Mortises and Tenons.
Week 3: Square Rule Layout; Girt Layout/Cutting, Housings, Mortises and Tenons; Template Layout; Tool Sharpening.
Week 4: Square Rule Layout; Rafter Layout/Cutting, Wedged Scarfs, Housings, Mortises and Tenons; Frame Test Fitting and Pegging; Frame Assembly.
