Through out the Timber Frame Bents course students will employ the following skills as they develop though out this 4 week course.
- Methodology, history design and vocabulary
- Design and loft hammer bents
- Draft shop drawings
- Calculations for weight, volume and center of gravity of Hammer Bent Truss
- Calculate loads for lifting tackles
- Wood Tech- grades, seasoning wood and finishing of timbers
- Engineering structural concepts
- Corrected ‘virtual’ timber layoput on distorted wood
- Tool ID, safety, use and sharpening
- Understand mechanical advantage
- Types and uses of timber joinery…wedged tenons, housings, sloped shoulders, kneebraces, templates, etc.
- Construct, preassemble and raise hammer bent frame work
- Construct a temporary foundation
- Understand wall Infill wall verses Envelope systems (S.I.P)
- Understand types and beam sizing for roof structures
- Work as a team to complete project
- 20% Theoretical
- 80% Practical
